Autocheck was a disastrous ticket system introduced in late 1986 and taken out in late 1988. It read people’s passes but sadly usually ate them up!! If it was ok then it would beep ok but if not would beep a loud noise . It took up one seat normally on the bus but there was a machine on both sides. Sadly the mechanisms soon got dust or other things in them.

Garages that used them were PD, SP, TL for the 160, and NX for the 89. It was designed for the Woolwich and Bexleyheath areas. It was as I say a disaster and in the end due to the problems people would not use the machines. If a pass got stuck you put your budget key in and twisters it out. Sadly the pass was usually mangled .
