Comment

In the 80s I was driving at Poplar and remember when the D1 was introduced. Like many ex trolleybus garages we had a common rota and this was fiercely defended. It was first proposed that a dedicated few drivers would work the route all the time - no lates or weekends. The route was only Mon - Fri to start with. There was uproar at a union meeting and the route was absorbed into the main rota.
Changeover point was in the garage with all buses running dead usually from Mile End.
